As we head deeper into fall, I find myself wanting to cozy up and dive into a good book. Maybe it’s the shorter days, but something about this time of year makes me want to hibernate and learn. Do you ever feel the same way?
This seasonal shift reminds me of the books for nurse practitioners that have truly supported my growth and practice. Recently, I shared Part 1 of my top book recommendations (watch a brief overview here). Now, I want to share Part 2 — a list of impactful books that helped me through diverse clinical experiences, from community mental health to substance use disorder and eating disorder programs.
Some of these books enhance clinical understanding for treatment decisions, while others provide insights into experiences like addiction or eating struggles that I haven’t personally faced. This deeper perspective helps me become a more empathetic and effective provider.
Here’s a snippet of the books that have influenced my practice the most.
These books have given me a profound view of patient experiences and helped shape my approach as a psych NP. Books for nurse practitioners are such a great way to expand your experiences beyond yourself and the patients you serve.
What books have had the most impact on your practice as an NP or nurse? I’m always looking for new recommendations to read and share!
