How to Reduce Stress Treating Mental Disorders: 3 Tools I Recommend

by | Mar 12, 2026 | Clinical support resources, Transition into Practice Tips & Resources

Around my house, I’m known for two things: my inability to cook and my ability to reduce stress while treating mental disorders.

I’m not going to force my (terrible) lasagna recipe on you, but I am going to share a few practical resources that help me—and might help you—feel more confident and less overwhelmed in practice.

Whether you’re a PMHNP student, new grad, or seasoned provider, these three tools can help you reduce stress treating mental disorders without sacrificing quality of care.

1. Use Berries: An AI Scribe Built for Mental Health

Let’s start with one of my favorites: Berries AI.

This HIPAA-compliant AI scribe is designed specifically for mental health professionals. It writes your notes while you speak to your patients. That means fewer hours spent charting and more energy left at the end of your day. Wins all around.

Here’s what I love about Berries AI scribe:

  • It’s HIPAA-compliant
  • Recordings aren’t stored
  • Super user-friendly

If charting is a major stressor, this tool might be your new best friend.

2. Try Psychotherapy Note Templates from Debbie Granick

I haven’t personally used these templates, but they’ve come highly recommended from other NPs in my community.

Psych NP and social worker Debbie Granick created a suite of psychotherapy templates that are designed to streamline your documentation and understand psychotherapy add-on codes without sacrificing depth. It’s a great option if you’re providing therapy and want to enhance your note quality and efficiency.

3. Join the Mental Disorders Crash Course

And of course, I can’t make a recommendation list without including my Mental Disorders Crash Course.

It’s self-paced, packed with practical information, and covers the primary mental health conditions you’ll encounter in practice. Whether you’re reviewing material as an NP student or managing full-time clinical work as a new grad, this course is designed to give you clarity and confidence. Here’s the Course curriculum to get a better sense of what the Course covers.

Practical Help for Stressed-Out Psych NPs

Listen, we all feel a little stretched sometimes. Between patient care, documentation, and trying to keep up with ongoing education, burnout can sneak up fast.

But small changes—like better tools and more support—can make a big difference.

I hope one of these resources helps reduce stress treating mental disorders for you and your patients.

And if you’ve got a recipe you’re actually good at (unlike me), please send it my way. I need to redeem myself in the kitchen. 😂
